About The Role

We are looking for a Senior IT Engineer to join our IT team at an exciting time of change and improvement.

Senior IT Engineer
Location: Irthlingborough
Hours: 36.25 per week + on call rota

We’re currently on a journey to modernise and strengthen our IT environment, moving towards a more secure, scalable, and well-managed technology estate. Key areas of focus include Microsoft 365 and endpoint management, cybersecurity improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and enhancing overall service delivery.

This role offers the opportunity to get hands-on with these initiatives, contribute ideas, and play a key part in shaping how IT evolves across the business.
You’ll be encouraged to take ownership, bring forward ideas, and play an active role in improving systems and services.

What are the main responsibilities of the job role?
  • Taking ownership of core IT systems including endpoints, Microsoft 365, identity, and networking
  • Acting as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues
  • Delivering technical improvements, upgrades, and changes across the environment
  • Playing a key role in IT projects and transformation initiatives
  • Supporting and improving helpdesk operations and service delivery
  • Maintaining IT asset inventory and documentation
  • Working closely with the IT Manager to identify and implement improvements
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members
  • Building strong relationships across the business and delivering a high-quality IT service
  • Participating in the on-call rota to support business-critical systems
What are the key ingredients needed for the role?

We’re looking for someone with strong technical foundations and the right mindset. You might already be operating at a senior level or be an experienced engineer ready to step up into a more senior role.

  • Experience in an IT support or infrastructure role (typically 3–6 years)
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, end-user devices, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Entra ID, Intune, Defender)
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (switching, VLANs, firewalls)
  • Experience with server environments (on-prem and/or cloud)
  • Strong problem-solving skills across hardware, software, and networks
  • Awareness of cybersecurity best practices

We don’t expect candidates to meet every requirement listed above. If you have strong technical foundations, a proactive mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow, we’d still love to hear from you.
