About The Role

Packaging is everywhere. It protects what's packed, it’s a silent salesman and it communicates product information.  innovative packaging can create competitive advantage and so we are looking for an experienced Packaging Technologist who is able to deliver value to the business. The successful candidate will work as part of the broader team including Brand, Projects, NPD and Procurement, to identify and implement safe, legal, consistently functional and innovative packaging solutions that deliver for our customers (and Whitworths) whilst minimising our environmental impact.  
 
What are the main responsibilities of the job role?  In this role, you will support the Packaging Innovation Manager, developing and delivering fit for purpose packaging solutions and innovation opportunities, taking projects from concept, through trials to on shelf implementation.  A key element of the role will include the maintenance and delivery of efficient packaging governance, which will include maintaining packaging databases, so attention to detail is key here. From a commercial perspective, you will identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and practicality. This is just a flavour of the role, but as packaging is the future, you will need to keep yourself up to date with innovation, to identify new opportunities and trends and use this to influence the future of packaging within Whitworths and our customers.  
 
Our ideal candidate would have relevant qualifications such as Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology or equivalent industry experience.  You are likely to already be working in food packaging or a packaging role elsewhere and be looking for a role where you can continue to grow your experience; make a significant contribution to the future of packaging and develop your career further.  You will have a good understanding of a variety of packaging  materials, manufacturing processes and industry trends, packaging development and of running factory trials.    
 
Who are you?  You will be an excellent communicator, with good influencing skills, You will enjoy collaborating with others, and working as part of many different teams, Importantly, you will have an eye for detail, work well to process and be able to work independently.  Of course, we would expect you to be fully conversant with Microsoft Office and specifically excel.  As a person, you are likely to be intellectually curious and work with pace and passion.
