About The Role

The Role:

Are you passionate about food and adept at reasoning through complex information. We are seeking a critical thinker who probes and questions options, thinks logically and objectively, and evaluates alternatives effectively.

As a Specifications Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring all product specifications are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant legislation and customer requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail to join a dynamic and growing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain accurate product specifications for all Whitworths products.
  • Ensure compliance with UK, EU, and international food safety regulations and legislation.
  • Liaise with suppliers to gather technical information and verify ingredient compliance.
  • Support the new product development (NPD) process by creating and updating specifications for new and existing products.
  • Manage retailer portals and ensure timely submission of product specifications.
  • Conduct regular reviews of specifications to ensure alignment with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Quality, NPD, and Commercial, to address technical and specification-related queries.
  • Assist in responding to customer audits and technical inquiries.

About You:

  • A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a similar role within the food industry, ideally with exposure to dried fruits, nuts, or seeds.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, such as HACCP, BRC, and retailer standards.
  • Proficiency in using retailer portals and specification systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
